Thompson was an American journalist and author, credited with inspiring the gonzo journalism movement (whereby journalists write without objectivity and often serve as part of the story in which he/she is writing) – if you haven’t yet, check out Thompson’s Hell’s Angels: A Strange and Terrible Saga and/or Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream
