Matt Burgess, author of the critically acclaimed urban crime novels, Dogfight, A Love Story and Uncle Janice, recently provided us with a list of his five favorite books, which you can find below. It should come as no surprise that one of Matt’s favorite novels is the timeless classic Clockers by author Richard Price. Matt’s writing exhibits a keen ear for dialogue that is reminiscent of Price and, as the New York Times noted in its review of Dogfight, an ability to evoke “a cliche-free depiction of urban reality[.]” Matt is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Minnesota’s MFA program. He currently serves as assistant visiting professor at Macalester College where he teaches writing, crime fiction, and poetry.
